Since 2020 the members of Cuadro Frezca have been pooling their skills to create murals that formulate a clear stance on man-made exploitation and confront the public with uncomfortable questions about rent speculation and climate change. In doing so, the group seeks to think substantively and profoundly about the mural medium and prefers to work site specific, participatory, and controversial.

Their interactions with the urban landscape are thought-pictures, charged with political explosiveness. Cuadro Frezca consists of the pioneer of the "Graffiti goes East" movement and facade designer Nickau, painter and animator Bremer, curator and dramaturge Begrich, and cultural scientist and urban dermatologist Preußler. Their goal is nothing less than to turn the meaning of a wall with each mural in order to activate its viewers.

Note from the organizers:

The Cuadro Frezca facade in Roderbruch put us as organizers in a difficult position. Despite an agreement on a concrete Hola Utopia design, the artists did not stick to the agreement and put a large-scale critique of the Vonovia corporation on the wall of the high-rise building. The façade was also accompanied by an Internet page in which the criticism of the capitalist orientation of the corporation was discussed in detail.

Of course, we as curators were responsible for the whole thing. We were able to explain to the company that we had not planned the action ourselves. After a large media response to the action, there was a lot of feedback, the tenor of which was that it was a successful critique of capitalism. All in all, it was a situation from which we learned a great deal.
